Hackthorn School – Even MORE OUTSTANDING than last time
The opening sentence of the 2007 report sums up our school exactly:
“This exceptional school provides its pupils with an excellent education
and helps them to thrive personally and socially.”
The design of inspections has changed radically since our last inspection. The latest inspection format is to carry out an audit of the school’s own audit of how well we think we are doing. Inspectors check the school is making sound, well informed, realistic judgements about its performance and has the capacity to improve.
As we have said before, anyone who imagines these new shorter, snap inspections are a watered down version of previous systems would be completely wrong – this inspection was very focused and extremely rigorous!
Following current trends in national educational policy, inspections now tend to be quite data driven and examine pupil test scores and statistics. It is our view that:
‘Children are names and not numbers to be imprisoned in spread sheet cells’
This report recognises our ethos and supports our efforts to treat children as individuals with their own personalities and needs.
We are one of a very, very small number of schools who are judged ‘outstanding’ in all areas.
|The overall effectiveness of the school||Outstanding|
|Standards and Achievement (how do our pupils perform compared to the rest of the country and how well do they progress)||Outstanding|
|Pupils’ personal development and well-being||Outstanding|
|The quality of provision (how good are the teachers, the curriculum and resources)||Outstanding|
|The leadership and management of the school||Outstanding|
One of the most rewarding parts of the report is the observation that children in our school have learned how to learn no matter what subject they are tackling and they enjoy it!
The challenge has always been – to take a school on the ofsted list of top performing schools and make it even better – we have!
This report is a tribute to the work and support of everyone connected to Hackthorn School: children, staff, parents, governors and friends. We should all be very proud of these achievements and be pleased to be associated with our school and say that:
‘our school is an outstanding school’.
