Dear Parents & Friends
What a busy start to Term 4…Witham Hill Gymnastics for KS2, new Sports clubs, World Book Day activities, parent/teacher interviews and the KS1 trip to Lincoln Castle.
KS2 were so excited to return to Witham Hill Gymnastics last Wednesday and came back buzzing about their experiences. Judging by the amount of gymnastics awards I present in assembly, it is clear that these sessions inspire the children.
World Book Day was a big hit again this year. The children looked fabulous, dressed as their favourite book characters and our new children were amazed by the number of exciting activities that staff had prepared…whole school ‘Write a story’, designing bookmarks, What’s in the box?, Story soup, Book Scavenger hunt, Anagram Hunt, Share a story and Fairytale collage. It was a busy but extremely enjoyable day.
KS1 had a fantastic action packed trip to Lincoln Castle… they participated in jousting, archery, and the squire’s challenge to ‘dress a knight’. They made shields, were involved in a medieval banquet and enjoyed the views on the castle’s wall walk. The only disappointing aspect was that the day wasn’t long enough. Even the weather remained good—unusual for a KS1 trip! One of the Reception pupils, who was participating in her first trip, was overheard saying “This is the best trip I’ve ever been on!” Make sure you attend this week’s Good Works Assembly to find out all about their experiences.
Our hardworking FOHS Team have been extremely busy organising their next event, which is a Fashion show at Dunholme village hall on Thursday 23 April. Please make sure you invite all your friends. Ask for a poster to promote it.
This term we will be preparing for our Easter Service. We hope you will be able to join us and would be grateful if you could complete and return the usual consent form attached with regard to collecting children after church.
Wishing you all a Happy Easter!
Mrs K Appleby, Headteacher

Hackthorn School 150th Anniversary Celebration Event—19th July
Hackthorn School celebrates its 150th anniversary this July, and a celebration event is currently being planned for Sunday 19th July. We had another productive planning meeting last night with a small group of people from school and the community attending and offering their support and ideas. The success of the event will depend on the availability of your children on the day, as we would like the current pupils to be heavily involved.
The event will start at St Michael’s and All Angels church from 1:30 – 2:00 with a short service followed by a procession from the church to the school field, where there will be a range of activities. We hope that the local press will attend and we will also be approaching Look North for publicity.
At the event there will be country dancing for all to join in, the children will sing traditional folk and modern songs and belle plates may feature. There will be a selection of food stalls and cakes made by local people.
Refreshments will be provided by FOHS. We’re planning on there being a circus entertainer, magician and a history display of the school.
We would love to have some live music, ideally provided by past pupils or local people. If you know of anyone who would be willing to be involved, please can you contact the school office with details, as a matter of urgency.
The event will finish at 5pm.
Easter Service – Thursday 02 April 2020
The Easter Service will take place at 2.00pm on Thursday 02 April village church. Parents may take their children home after the service if they wish. The remaining children will go home from school in the usual way at 3.30pm. Please complete the consent form and return it to school as soon as possible so we are fully aware of your arrangements. If you do not have a form, you can print one out from the pdf version of this newsletter
