Dear Parents & Friends
There’s certainly a lot of drama at Hackthorn! At the time of writing, I can hear loud, but angelic singing from KS1 as the younger pupils practise for their Christmas production. Meanwhile there is a lively debate occurring in KS2 about which wife Henry VIII should keep! I think the children were inspired by the Young Shakespeare’s performance of Macbeth last Friday, which they participated in with great gusto.
By the time this goes out, the children will have realised that we have had a visit from some of Santa’s elves who have transformed our outdoor reflection area into a magical grotto, just in time for our Christmas fair. The ‘elves’ have had many meetings to ensure our fair runs smoothly and we are extremely grateful for all of their efforts.
We have an exciting programme of events over the next three weeks and hope you will be able to join us at the KS1 production and the Carol Service. Both are normally very well attended so I would recommend that you secure performance tickets well in advance of the former and arrive early to the latter to ensure you get a seat.
Wishing you all a very happy and healthy Christmas.

‘Children of the World’ – KS1 Production
Wednesday 11 (11am) & Thursday 12 (2pm) December
Discover a little about Christmas around the globe!
Once again we will be asking parents to buy tickets for the production so that we know how many people to expect – funds raised will be used, as previously, to replenish our Nativity wardrobe. Tickets cost £1 and can be purchased from the school office.
Governor’s Thoughts for the Month
Recently Mr Tuplin (our Maths link governor) visited the school to observe our ‘hands-on’ approach to solving mathematical problems. There was excellent use of manipulatives and the children were all actively involved in their learning. Mrs Blackbourn (our English link governor) also visited the school to talk to the teachers and children about our new approach to English lessons. We have been trialing planning, written by Chris Whitney, based on new, beautifully illustrated texts with enriched vocabulary which has encouraged the children to expand their vocabulary. The children have really enjoyed predicting what will happen next but they have also been rather impatient to read the next page!
Whole School Christmas Trip to LPAC Pantomime – (am) Tuesday 17 December
Please ensure children arrive promptly to school to enable the bus to leave on time.
We will be returning to school in time for lunch.
Christmas Party – Wednesday 18 December
Children need to wear school uniform during the morning but may bring ‘party clothes’ for the afternoon if they wish. Due to the anticipated visitation from a certain important visitor, a reminder that also that there will be no need for parents to provide any party food as in previous years – a drink and biscuit will be provided during a brief respite from party games and dancing!
Carol Service – Thursday 19 December (2pm)
Carol Service will take place at 2.00pm on Thursday 19 December in the village
church. Parents may take their children
home after the service if they wish.
Children who are booked into Kids Club or go home on the school bus will
return to school with staff. Please
complete the attached form and return it to school so we are fully aware of
