Dear Parents & Friends
We LOVE Christmas so much at Hackthorn that the children could be heard singing Winter/Christmas songs in November. This was in preparation for our performances at the Winter Fair and for our carol singing at Drovers’ Call Care Home. I think both the parents who attended the fair and the helpers and residents of Drovers’ were equally impressed by the children’s enthusiastic and joyful singing. May I say a huge thank you to the FOHS and to everyone who contributed to and attended the fair. There was a wonderful atmosphere and a staggering £475 was raised.
At the time of writing, I can hear loud singing from KS1 as the younger pupils practise for their Christmas production. If the sounds and giggles, as well as previous performances, are anything to go by, it will be worth watching! Meanwhile contemporary Christmas music is blasting out from the KS2 classroom accompanied by spontaneous outbursts of singing as the older pupils are having a wonderful time creating their Christmas crafts. What a joyful place to work!
We have an exciting programme of events over the next three weeks and hope you will be able to join us at the KS1 production and the Carol Service. Both are normally very well attended so I would recommend that you secure performance tickets well in advance of the former and arrive early to the latter to ensure you get a seat.
Wishing you all a very happy and healthy Christmas.

‘It’s a Party’ (KS1 Production) – Wednesday 12 (11am) & Thursday 13 (2pm) December
Come and follow the progress of the angels, who are delivering invitations to a rather unusual party… !
Once again we will be asking parents to buy tickets for the production so that we know how many people to expect – funds raised will be used, as previously, to replenish our Nativity wardrobe. Tickets cost £1 and can be purchased from the school office. Please complete the ticket request slip attached.
Xscape, Castleford – Tuesday 18 December
Not long to go now until the whole school departs for Xscape at Castleford for some sledging, bowling and soft play fun!
We are delighted that Mr C (from JB Sports) will be accompanying us on this trip. Please ensure that your child is in school at the slightly earlier time of 8.45am to enable all children to use toilet facilities before departure and the bus to depart promptly. All children will need to bring a packed lunch with them and plenty to drink.
Christmas Jumper Day – Friday 14 December
Don’t forget it is the official ‘Save the Children’ Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 14 December. As stated in the November newsletter, please do not feel obliged to make a contribution (or purchase a Christmas jumper especially), but if you would like to do so then all £1 donations made on the day will be sent to Save the Children.
Christmas Party – Wednesday 19 December
Children need to wear school uniform during the morning but may bring ‘party clothes’ for the afternoon if they wish. Due to the anticipated visitation from a certain important visitor, a reminder that also that there will be no need for parents to provide any party food as in previous years – a drink and biscuit will be provided during a brief respite from party games and dancing!
Carol Service – Thursday 20 December (2pm)
The Carol Service will take place at 2.00pm on Thursday 20 December in the village church. Parents may take their children home after the service if they wish. Children who are booked into Kids Club or go home on the school bus will return to school with staff. Please complete the form attached to the original newsletter or download the PDF version and return it to school so we are fully aware of your arrangements.
